2017 Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche: Compassionate action – in love with human and animal

In the scope of his Europe tour the Buddhist dignitary has also visited the Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Stations of his stay were the animal clinic in Norderstedt, the Wilhelm-Gymnasium and the children´s hospice Sternenbrücke.

Ward round at the Norderstedter animal clinic: Directly after his arrival in Hamburg the director and leading doctor, Prof. Dr. Nickel, introduced the impressive clinic and the manifold treatment options to Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche and his attendants.

Background of the visit of Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche was the structure of a hospital at the Live To Rescue animal shelter in the Indian Ladakh. Medical know-how from medical specialists is especially badly needed on the ground.

Maybe a bridge of cooperativeness from Norderstedt to the Himalayas is developing soon: Because there are several veterinarians at the clinic, who want to support projects far away, as Prof. Dr. Nickel held out in prospect. The Hamburger Abendblatt reported about the visit.

Becoming happy in action for fellow human beings and environment

A joyous reception was given to Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche also at the Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Hamburg-Harvestehude: Already at the arrival students were waving from their classrooms and overwhelmed him with questions a little later.

At the beginning there was an exchange with the school administrators, Dr. Richter and Dr. Hutmacher, about teachings concepts in Germany and in the Indian Ladakh. Then it continued in the auditorium: 80 students of the 11th grade participated in a dialog with Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche.

In his introduction he strengthened every individual in his potential to contribute something valuable for the society and the preservation of the earth. This would be the recipe for being happy. He also showed the interdependencies in a global society and in this sense called on responsible action.

The audience was electrified – the students asked many questions and there was great interest to learn particulars about Live To Love and the possibility to work as a volunteer at the Druk Padma Karpo School in Ladakh.

Together with “Vier Pfoten" for the protection of animals

Subsequently Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche met the country director of Vier Pfoten Germany, Rüdiger Jürgensen. He presented the Live To Rescue project in this inspiring meeting, told about the suffering of the street dogs there and how he and his team try to give the dogs more joy of living again.

Mr. Jürgensen described in which projects the animal protection foundation Vier Pfoten is involved in and both exchanged views about the attitude of people concerning animals in need and the topic compassion.

Appreciating life conscious of impermanence

Rainbows over the children´s hospice Sternenbrücke - Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche was warmly welcomed by founder Ute Nerge and public relations director Christiane Schüddekopf.

Mrs. Nerge told Thuksey Rinpoche about the history of origins of the house and her motivation to establish a place, which can give families of seriously ill children help and strength concerning the care.

Within a short time a dialog from heart to heart developed conscious of impermanence and the value of life.

In the exchange the difference between the cultures became also apparent: While in Ladakh often more than 15 persons belong to a family, who care for ill members, the families in the West are substantially smaller – also professionally strongly involved. That means care and supply are spread on fewer shoulders.
